David Paintin
Dr David Paintin FRCOG is a British doctor and an emeritus reader in obstetrics and gynaecology at Imperial College School of Medicine at St Mary's, London.〔Paintin D (1997). Abortion after 24 weeks. Paintin qualified in Bristol in 1954.〔http://www.kcl.ac.uk/sspp/departments/icbh/witness/PDFfiles/AbortionAct1967.pdf〕 He trained under Professor (later Sir) Dugald Baird in Aberdeen before becoming a lecturer in obstetrics and gynaecology at St Mary's Hospital Medical School, London in 1963, where he started an abortion service with Professor Ian MacGillivray, although the legality of doing so was unclear at the time. Paintin joined the Abortion Law Reform Association in 1963, becoming more actively involved in 1965 and working alongside Dr Peter Diggory. Paintin and Diggory were the only two ALRA members who were also members of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.〔''Abortion Law Reformers: Pioneers of Change'', ed. by Ann Furedi & Mick Hume, Birth Control Trust 1997.
